I am very anxious about giving birth as I hear so many frightening stories from friends. What is the best way to deliver a baby and is there a way to ensure a good experience?

It is very common to be anxious about labour and birth or to want to know more about the best way to give birth and one’s options in this regard. Anxiety is mostly about pain and how to deal with it, possible complications and often too about the effects of birth on one’s body. It is very sad that women think that a typical ‘normal’ hospital delivery with all the usual procedures is the same as a ‘natural’ birth. There are really 3 ways to give birth – normal vaginal delivery, Caesarean section and then there is the option of natural birth (as Mother Nature intended, not as we humans have tried to impose our methods on an event which can be so beautiful and empowering). The best birth depends a little on the unfolding events toward the end of pregnancy and during labour. If one really requires medical intervention or a Caesarean section (either for mother or baby) then that is the best birth, just as a truly natural birth is the best if all is well with both. Anxiety always makes birth more difficult as this raises adrenaline and cortisol levels in the bloodstream and these suppress the hormones that make labour easier and reduce pain naturally. Rescue Birth and Recovery is excellent for reducing anxiety levels and improving coping ability in the later stages of pregnancy, for labour and during the early adjustment to motherhood period. Most women are able to give natural birth and the experience is empowering and often life-changing. A simple belief in the ability of one’s mind and body to do well what it is essentially designed to do is core and Rescue Birth and Recovery helps women tap into this phenomenal power.
